Lesson Summary
Students continue measuring and graphing their selected plant’s height, along with observing and recording the height and changes in all of the plants. Students should begin to notice a growth spurt in the plants’ development, just as humans have growth spurts.
Teacher Background
The plant continues to develop true leaves and buds. Student measurement and graphing should bring to light the change in growth pattern, as the plants go through growth spurts. Like humans, plant growth spurts can occur at different rates and at slightly different times. Teachers can post the Life Cycle cards where they are visible to students throughout the unit. Life Cycle cards 6 and 7 are of particular interest at this time.
Set-up/Management Tips
- Have Life Cycle cards available for students to practice putting in order.
- Have bamboo sticks or toothpicks available to support leaning plants.
