Unit Concepts and Skills

Teachers want to keep these ideas in mind throughout the unit to help guide instruction and to emphasize with learners.

  • There are many kinds of machines that help to make work easier.
  • Simple machines such as levers, inclined planes, and pulleys make work easier by multiplying the effort, or force, applied to the simple machine, and/or changing its direction.
  • Making work easier with simple machines involves trade-offs between the amount of effort or of force, and the distance and time over which it is applied.

*Refer to Insights Teacher Guide pp. I-29 - I-32 for a more detailed description
