Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Lesson 16: Post-Unit Assessment: Sharing what we know about the
Life Cycle of Butterflies

Lesson Summary

Students revisit the charts created in Lesson 1 and their notebook entries.   Add suggestions to the charts.  Students once more draw a caterpillar and then illustrate how it changes throughout the course of its life.  These activities will allow the teacher and students to see how much the students have learned about the life cycle of the butterfly.

Teacher Background

Set-up/Management Tip

  1. Consider having students do the final activity without revisiting their notebook entries.  This may allow for a truer picture of what students actually remember and have learned.
  2. Consider displaying students’ pre- and post-unit assessment drawings side by side in the classroom.
