Lesson Summary
Students use their data to answer their questions.
Teacher Background
Students will be surprised at how much they have learned about caterpillars and butterflies and how much more they know about the life cycle of butterflies. This lesson allows students to look back over the previous activities and reflect upon what they have learned and measure their own progress. Students will use their journals to determine how long it takes for a caterpillar to become a butterfly.
Set-up/Management Tips
- Remind students to use the class calendar or their own calendar to help answer the questions.
- Some students may find this task difficult. Encourage students to work in pairs, if necessary. If needed, this can be done step by step as a large group activity. If this is done large group, you will need to choose dates for the whole class to use rather than everyone using the specific dates written in their science notebooks.
