Investigation 4: Coordination, Part 3: Timing Your Responses
|
|
Lesson Summary
Students quantify response time in 100ths of a second. They catch a falling strip of paper on which are written numbers that correspond to the time elapsed between drop and catch.
Teacher Background
Coordinated humans generally respond to visual stimuli in less than a quarter of a second. Timing in 100ths of a second is used in many types of racing, including swimming, speed skating, and skiing.
Set-up/Management Tips
- Teacher needs to be aware of any students with disabilities and how to accommodate for those disabilities.
- Have numbered measurement strips copied and ready for lesson.
