Human Body

Investigation 4: Coordination, Part 2: Response and Practice

Lesson Summary

Students investigate how practice effects response time.  They repeat the part 1 investigations after several sessions of practice.

Teacher Background

Response time is the length of time it takes for a person to respond to a stimulus.  Practice increases muscle strength and reinforces neural pathways.  Many factors can influence response time.  Sickness, poor conditioning, fatigue, and drugs can slow response time.

Set-up/Management Tips

  1. Have response sheet ready for assessment at the end of activity.
