Lesson Summary
Children have the opportunity to use different materials to make balls. When they are finished they explore how their balls roll, bounce, and fall.
Teacher Background
Give students a chance to take apart or view the insides of old balls. Refer to Assessment Record page I-25 and/or Student Profile page I-31-34 while you observe the children working. This embedded assessment gives the teacher a chance to step back and observe the children working.
Set-up/Management Tips
- Copy Home-School Worksheet. (optional)
- Collect several balls for students to observe, both hollow and solid.
- Put out materials in an easy accessible manner for all students.
- With student input, set up the learning experience as a fair test.
