Balls and Ramps

Learning Experience 9: Making More Balls (Embedded Assessment)
Number of Sessions: 2 or more needed

Lesson Summary

Children have the opportunity to use different materials to make balls.  When they are finished they explore how their balls roll, bounce, and fall.

Teacher Background

Give students a chance to take apart or view the insides of old balls.  Refer to Assessment Record page I-25 and/or Student Profile page I-31-34 while you observe the children working. This embedded assessment gives the teacher a chance to step back and observe the children working.

Set-up/Management Tips

  • Copy Home-School Worksheet.  (optional)
  • Collect several balls for students to observe, both hollow and solid.
  • Put out materials in an easy accessible manner for all students.
