Job Summary:
Assists clients in the preparation of graphic materials to be utilized for printing, displays, presentations, etc.

Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate.
  2. Two-year graphics degree or, alternatively, three years of experience in graphics
  3. Demonstrated art and design ability
  4. Demonstrated ability on computerized page layout, graphics and word processing programs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Designs electronic/mechanical layouts for printed pieces, displays, presentation, etc.
  2. Assists clients with design/production options, cost estimates and timelines.
  3. Maintains acceptable quality control on all materials produced in the department.
  4. Assists clients with production information and services offered by the graphics/ printing department.
  5. Meets deadlines or works with supervisor or client to establish new deadline.
  6. Troubleshoots problems with equipment and places service call if needed.
  7. Performs routine maintenance on all graphics equipment.
  8. Records required information and any changes made to job on job ticket.
  9. Keeps all graphics well organized, including proper storage of chemicals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in scheduling jobs for the department.
  2. Assists in the supervision of interns and work experience students.
  3. Keeps accurate inventory of graphics supplies.
  4. Provides requested training on design/layout to district staff using Agency supported software.
  5. Provides requested career talks regarding the graphics field as a career.
  6. Develops and maintains proper and adequate records and documentation in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
  7. Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the mission of the department, unit and Agency.
  8. Participates in staff development and professional growth activities.
  9. Provides input to supervisor on training and equipment needs of the program.
  10. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships.
  2. Ability to function effectively as a responsible team member.
  3. Working knowledge of graphics and printing services.
  4. Ability to operate effectively all computer programs/equipment utilized in the graphics area.
  5. Working knowledge of prepress procedures and negative stripping.
  6. Working knowledge of services utilized by the program from third party vendors.
  7. Ability to convey a positive and professional image to staff and public.
  8. Ability to process, categorize and file information and forms in accordance with Agency procedures.
  9. Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
  10. Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence, and apply appropriate mathematical concepts.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Normal, routine levels of bending, carrying, lifting, climbing, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
  2. Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate graphics and office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, copy machines, cutters, binding systems, telephones.
