Strategic Teaching for Online Learning I
This course is one of two courses which will provide educators with online learning from a student perspective and allow them as teachers to: develop and implement successful strategies for online teaching; anticipate challenges and problems in the online classroom; and understand the need for appropriate responsiveness and a supportive attitude toward students. This 4-week course provides an Orientation to Online Teaching and Learning, a exploration of Online Communication Strategies, Online Learning Resources and Lesson Design, and strategies to provide Collaborative Learning and Focus on Needs in an online environment. Those enrolled will need to log into the course four to five days a week and participate in a synchronous (real time) session once a week on a schedule arranged to meet participant's needs.
Prerequisites: Enrollees must hold at least a bachelor's degree and have daily access to a computer with an Internet connection. Prerequisite computer skills include finding information ont he Internet, basic word processing, and sending/receiving email.

CE Credits Online

Grant Wood AEA 10 Educators now receive discount pricing for CE Credits Online Professional Development courses! These courses are approved for graduate credit through Humboldt State University (HSU), part of the California University System. HSU graduate credits are accepted by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for the purpose of renewing an educational license. For Iowa licensure renewal, university credit must be obtained through HSU at the end of the course with an additional fee of $46 per credit plus a $10 processing fee per transaction. Graduate credit will be issued by HSU and they will send participants a transcript after successful course completion.

The courses are interactive, standards-based and research-driven. They are delivered totally online, and participants can work anytime, anywhere, 24/7, as their schedules permit.

  • These are online courses accessed via the Internet.  Please make sure when registering that you include the e-mail address at which you wish to receive information about this course. An e-mail will be sent to the address you provide during the week preceding the start of the course inviting you to join this course. Failure to respond to this email before the starting date will result in being denied access to the course. Participants are expected to log in to the course several times per week over the duration of the course to obtain weekly assignments, post responses to discussion questions, and comment on other participants' postings.

    Morningside College and Virtual Education Software, Inc. (VESi), located in Spokane, Washington, have partnered to offer convenient and relevant professional development courses completed via CD-Rom. VESi provides the courseware. The graduate student sets the pace. Morningside College awards the credit. Starting January 2009 the cost will be $190 for a 2-credit course and $230 for a 3-credit course. Courses are offered on a variety of topics including Classroom Management, Literacy, Autism, ADD, Talented & Gifted, Children's Mental Health & Behavior.
