Elementary Science Kit Workshops
These workshops are designed to provide the background needed to effectively implement the elementary science curriculum units. These units are aligned with the expectations of the Iowa Core Curriculum content, assessment and instruction. The workshops will focus on the key concepts in the unit as well as provide hands-on experience with all the unit activities. Practical teacher tips will be offered by experienced teacher facilitators to help with the management of hands-on materials. It is expected that all teachers participate in the workshop prior to the teaching the unit. See below for schedule. Notice that most classes are offered twice, once in the first semester and once in the second semester. We recommend that you register for the workshop closest to when you will teach the unit.
Time: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted
Location: Grant Wood AEA, 1120 33rd Ave SW, Cedar Rapids unless otherwise noted
Audience: K-6 Teachers
Registration: Complete registration form or register electronically at least two weeks in advance.
Format: Interactive, Hands-on
Fees: $30 per workshop paid in full at the time of registering.

Middle School Science Kit Workshops
These workshops are designed to provide the background needed to effectively implement the middle school science curriculum units. These units are aligned with the expectations of the Iowa Core Curriculum content, assessment and instruction. The workshops will focus on the key concepts in the unit as well as provide hands-on experience with all the unit activities. Practical teacher tips will be offered by the facilitators to help with the management of hands-on materials. These workshops are two full days. The inservice model for the middle school units focuses on the first half of the unit in Day One. The teachers return to the classroom and implement the investigations and then return several weeks later for the orientation on the second half of the unit. It is expected that all teachers participate in the workshop prior to teaching the unit. See below for schedule.
