Fundamental of Structured Teaching in the TEACCH Model
This course is designed to provide the tools that are needed to begin supporting students with autism using the TEACCH approach. This class provides an overview of the characteristics of Autism spectrum Disorders and the fundamentals of structured teaching, followed by the opportunity to assess physical structure, and schedules. To assess and set up work systems and tasks that will help the student achieve at an independent level, to the best of the student's ability level. This class stresses the assessment of the student in the environment and the types of structures needed to achieve independence and to help with predictability. Participants receive opportunity to try their ideas and structure with students on the autism spectrum.
Audience: Teachers and Paraeducators who serve students with Autism, Parents
Registration: The person wanting to take the class needs to call Tammy Carolan 399-6771 pr 1-800-798-9771 ext. 6771 and ask to be placed on the master waiting list.
Fees: A $50 registration fee is payable at the time of acceptance into a class. Renewal credit is available and payable the first day of class for an additional $25. Morningside credit is available and payable the first day of class for an additional $75.

I-ELDA Training 2012
This course will contain necessary information for administering the required I-ELDA test to ELL. I will include administration and calibration training for the writing and speaking subtests.

Introduction to Sheltered Instruction for Teachers of ELLs
This course will provide participants with a research-based framework to guide differentiated lesson planning, delivery, and assessment that meet the needs of ELLs and other diverse learners. Teaching strategies and demonstrations specifically designed to facilitate simultaneous learning of language and content will be presented by a variety of veteran educators.

Language Profiles of High-Functioning Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
In this workshop, profiles of language and other cognitive abilities among high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorders will be presented. Two sub-types commonly reported in the research literature will be discussed. Strategies for language intervention with a particular focus on the use of visual supports will be suggested.

This 1-semester hour course meets the state requirement for substitute authorization and paraeducator certification renewal. The course provides an overview of the definition and identification of exceptional learners and introduces strategies for dealing with their needs in the classroom.

sQuality Autism Programming
Participants will build an understanding of autism, become familiar with federal legislation, and recognize the six core elements of quality autism programming based on national and state level recommendations: individualized support and services, systematic instruction, structured learning environments, specific curriculum content, functional approach to problem behavior, and family involvement.
