Building Bridges: Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Conference
The "Building Bridges" Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Expo will provide an opportunity to see first hand the latest in assistive technologies(AT), practices, and services for students with disabilities. This AT conference will serve as a unique opportunity for vendors, professionals, parents, and service providers to exchange and gather information on the current status and tools available for consideration. The sessions presented at the "Building Bridges": Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Expo are divided into four main tracks which include: General Trends & Tools for AT; AT Supports for High-Incidence Disabilities (LD, reading/writing disabilities); AT Supports for Lo-Incidence Disabilities (moderate/severe communication and/or cognitive disabilities); General Web-based AT Resources. A vendor area of current AT resources and catalogs will also be available. Participants are encouraged to attend a single track or a wide variety of tracks depending on your conference objectives.

Boardmaker- Beginning Level
Boardmaker vs. 5 or newer software is a graphics database containing over 3,000 Picture Communication Symbols in clip art form. This training will introduce new users to the basic functions and features with several hands-on activities. Ideas of ways to use this program with regular and special needs students will be discussed.

Technology Supports for Struggling Readers and Writers
Assistive Technology offers many solutions and supports that can alleviate the frustration of students who struggle in the area of reading and writing. This workshop will focus specifically on those tools and strategies that can enhance the success that students can experience with reading and writing tasks in the classroom. The use of color, portable word processors, talking word processors, text readers and word prediction software will be discussed and demonstrated.

Top Ten Assistive Technology Tools
This 1 ½ hour presentation gives participants an overview of ten categories of assistive technology tools. A continuum of low-high tech tools will be introduced for use with struggling students in the classroom. Demonstration of tools and strategies that compensate, add speech, portability, color and facilitate reading, note-taking, organization, handwriting and worksheet completion will be demonstrated and discussed.

Writing With Symbols
This session will introduce users of Writing With Symbols to the features of this powerful word/picture processing program. Writing With Symbols is a teacher/parent tool that allows you to type words and have the option of having picture symbols quickly pop in with each word. WWS 2000 is a program with 3 primary purposes:
• Allows teachers and parents to make picture materials.
• Allows nontext ready individuals to write with pictures.
• Allows text users to have a talking word processing program with a pictorial spell checker
