Denise is a successful adult with dyslexia who has spent her life trying to help students so they do not have to struggle through school the way she did. She is a Title 1 reading teacher for the College Community School District. Her background includes teaching positions for students with dyslexia and related learning disabilities, and students in general and special education. Denise has a master’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in reading from Mount Mercy University. She is a director for the Slingerland Institute for Literacy and is currently president of the Iowa Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

Susan Groff-VanArendonk, GWAEA Transition Consultant, Special Education Consultant, explained that she was able to connect a client in one of our schools with a service based on her experiences attending Transition Night. "If it wasn't for Transition Night, I wouldn't have known about the service, to make the connection, and the referral to the parent."
