Contemporary School Leadership I - Applications are due May 1, 2010

The Contemporary School Leadership (CSL) program is based on a common core of learnings about contemporary leadership that are designed for the 21st century context of education. Participants will complete application assignments between sessions to deepen their learning. They will also work closely with their nominating administrators to design a final application project to synthesize their learning and to benefit their buildings and districts. After a two-day retreat in August, meetings will be held monthly September through June, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. No sessions are planned during December or May.

Please click on the link below to find the application/nomination form for 2010-2011: www.aea10.k12.ia.us/leadership/csl.html. Interested participants should complete the form and submit it to Nancy Lochner, Contemporary School Leadership Program Support at nlochner@gwaea.org. All CSL participants attend a two-day retreat. Participants will be divided into two cohorts either Wednesday or Thursday. It is recommended that districts attend CSL as a team.

Tuition for the program is $850 and includes six days with Dr. Susan Leddick, three days with other content experts, materials, a virtual learning network with CSL colleagues, meals at the retreat, and a final project presentation. Up to five hours of graduate or re-certification credit is available for an additional fee. Districts may choose to be billed before June 30 or after July 1.

Contemporary School Leadership II (Advanced Contemporary School Leadership)

Contemporary School Leadership has contributed to the development of hundreds of Iowa educators. Its continuous revitalization in response to the rapidly changing education context has assured that it earns the title “contemporary” every year.

Grant Wood AEA’s CSL II course continues this tradition, helping leaders to further sustain and renew their leadership learning. Dr. Susan Leddick will lead the CSL II sessions. Leddick was an originator of the CSL initiative and has been responsible for the annual updates that have kept CSL current. She is familiar with the Iowa education context, having consulted to schools, districts, AEA s, and the Iowa Department of Education at various times over the past two decades. As a leader of learning, Leddick is known for her ability to pose provocative questions that guide learners to new insights.
