Event to feature grant results
|
For immediate release
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning will be on display during an event held Tuesday, May 20, from 4-5 PM at the University of Iowa’s Seamans Center for Engineering Arts and Sciences, Stanley Auditorium (Room 1505), Iowa City.
In July 2007, the Iowa Department of Education awarded Grant Wood AEA a $200,000 grant to increase out of school STEM opportunities for students. As part of that grant, six sites were awarded $13,000 mini-grants to provide STEM learning opportunities, increase awareness of STEM careers, and increase community partnerships outside of the regular school day.
The event will feature presentations by students from English Valleys Elementary (English Valleys Community), Prairie Middle School (College Community), and Hills Elementary (Iowa City Community School District) STEM sites. The students will present and demonstrate their STEM learning, showcasing engineering design projects, PowerPoint presentations, and pamphlets.
Brief remarks will also be delivered by State Senator Robert Dvorsky, Barry Butler, Dean of the College of Engineering and Ron Fielder, Chief Administrator of GWAEA. We also plan to have representation from some of our community partners.
