The overall timeline of your technology plan should be 3 years. There are two very good reasons for that length of duration.
Technology changes too fast to design its use in 5 or 6 year chunks. Actually, 3 years out can be an eternity in the world of educational technology.
Guidelines set out by the Universal Service Fund (E-Rate) program recommends a 3 year technology plan.
Prioritization is an important element of timeline development. As you look at the three year duration of your plan, you will need to consider the following as you determine which actions will be slated for which year:
Staff and student actions must be matched with technology and professional development actions that are needed to accomplish them.
Follow a natural and logical progression.
What will the budget allow each year?
The technology plan will be evaluated each year. At that time, priorities may be adjusted as needed.
One way of indicating prioritization is to attach a year (Year 1; Year 2; Year 3) to each of the actions in your technology plan. Another way would be to break the goals and actions portion of your plan into three sections, one for each year. Within each of those sections you would list the staff, student, and technology goals and actions to be accomplished during that year.
