It is very important that you build into your technology plan a method and schedule for assessment or evaluation of the plan itself, and its implementation.
Technology, budgets, costs, and other factors change constantly during the timeline of a technology plan. Therefore it must be reopened periodically and adjustments made to bring it up-to-date.
Assessment and evaluation of the plan should be done by the standing technology planning committee.
Technology needs assessment must be done on an annual basis, even though the duration of your technology plan is 3 years. The data gathered through the needs assessment will be valuable in the plan assessment process.
The school improvement evaluation process used for your district's CSIP will be a valuable tool for assessing the elements of your technology plan dealing with student achievement goals and staff goals.
The technology planning committee needs to also take a close look at the timeline of the plan. Is implementation of the actions ahead of schedule, or behind? Is there more or less money remaining in the budget line items than you expected at this time? Some adjustment in the timeline may be necessary.
Other elements of the plan may need to be reopened as well. Does the Internet AUP need updating due to new laws or requirements that may have come into being since the time the plan was approved? A very good example of this need is the CIPA law. Its enactment led to most districts taking a look at their existing AUPs and updating them to meet CIPA requirements.

The plan needs to be evaluated for its impact on the Districts educational goals as outlined in the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. (280.18 and 280.12) This will be accomplished through the use of the school improvement evaluation process. Below is a summary of District Technology goals and how they were met this past school year or how planning in the past school year is set to take place in the 2001-2002 school year.
