WARNING!
Do not consider this element until all of your goals and actions have been developed. The budget element should never dictate the goals and actions in your technology plan. They should be guided by the technology "vision" that was developed early in this process.
Once technology, student, and staff goals and actions have been completed, the technology planning team should begin attaching the price tags to them. Research must be done, and this could take some time. These price tags should be attached directly to each action. That will help in the process of prioritization.
The price tags will also help in the development of the amounts for each technology line item in the general budget of your district.
Line items should exist in the district's budget for each of the following technology areas:
- Technology Staff
- Hardware
- Software
- Telecommunications
- Maintenance
- Professional Development
If your district expects to do some grant writing for technology needs, it will be very important to have these line items in place. Granting institutions are looking to fund programs where the district has demonstrated their ongoing commitment to the integration of technology. Nothing says it better than the district budget.
