Mentoring & Induction Program

The Grant Wood AEA Mentoring and Induction Program is designed to train district mentors to work with beginning teachers. It consists of six days of research based training in cooperation with the New Teacher Center at the University of California in Santa Cruz. This training will provide the mentor with knowledge and skills to support the beginning teacher's growth and development. Focused on the Iowa Teaching Standards, the sessions are highly interactive with opportunities for learning and practice. The mentor and the beginning teacher are expected to complete "assignments" in between training sessions.


The Grant Wood AEA Mentoring and Induction Program is designed to:

  • promote excellence in teaching
  • enhance student achievement
  • build a supportive environment within school districts
  • increase retention of promising beginning teachers
  • promote the personal and professional well-being of classroom teachers
