3-8 BizWorld is a free, four-part simulation where
groups of students set up a company to design, make, market, and
sell friendship bracelets. Math, science, and art are integrated
into the lessons.

offers tools for exploring careers in Iowa and integrating careers

Micron's K12 Programs
include a wide variety of activities conducted with students and
educators to promote and encourage math, science, technology,
and work-place awareness and preparation.
Model
lessons from educator job-site
visits. Select the schooling level of interest. During the summer
of 1998, more than 200 area educators visited business/industry
sites in the Chicago area. Following the visits, each participating
educator was required to submit an evaluation which included the
development on an activity that incorporated the information gained
from the trip into a student lesson.
The
Real Game is a comprehensive site with game descriptions,
the ability to try each game on-line, a newsletter for practitioners
and more. Real Game lessons are popular
with many Iowa teachers. The Real Game Series: Bringing Real Life to Career

Career Awareness Guide by the NC Dept of Instruction,
NC JobReady, and the NC State Occupational Info. Coor. Comm.,
1999, assists elementary school counselors and teachers to
identify current counseling and classroom activities which already
support career development and suggest ways to incorporate additional

on-line class project for groups of four to explore and present
about careers. Everything needed to complete the project is on-line.
Case Study Lesson Plans A
case study is a short story problem about a person and
a challenge that person faces. These Port of Seattle case study
lesson plans feature people who work in international trade and
transportation. They are designed to give students an active way
to "try on" a career. In addition, they help students
practice basic skills in reading, writing, and problem solving.
These lesson plans are all based on benchmarks for the Washington
State Essential Academic Learning Requirements.
Job Search Manual and Worksheets This is a complete, on-line manual with worksheets
which could be taught as a unit or independent study. It covers
the career development process and has worksheets for the students
to complete as they prepare for the job search. An excellent teaching
resource that includes sections on knowing thyself, resume and
cover letter preparation, job search strategies, and interviewing
skills.

Interest Inventory Directions The purpose of students
taking the on-line
interest inventories on the home page in the Student list
is to generate Career Pathways and Careers for students to explore.
Students are encouraged to complete as many activities as they
can without stopping to research specific careers. Some students
will be able to complete the activities independently. However,
some may require varying amounts of support to complete the activities
and to record their results on the Student
Summary Pages.
The Student Summary Pages lead the student through a decision-making process that results in Career Pathways and Careers to explore in more depth through research and structured learning experiences.

on the Net This lesson plan/unit will help teachers
instruct students how to use the Internet to find jobs and related
job data. Students will explore why they should use the Internet
for a job search; identify their interests, skills, abilities

trends; identify keywords for a job search on the Internet; and
execute a job search.
YoungBiz
This site presents business, investing and entrepreneurial ideas
to young people. With features for teachers as well as students,
the site includes portfolios, profiles of young entrepreneurs,
message boards and more.
Youth Site Facilitator Guide The guide
explains an excellant youth Canadian web site's main sections: the Website
Directory, the Mind Gallery Webzine and the Youth
Advisory Network. It also details theWebsite Directory's
components: Exploring Careers, Looking for Work, Government Services,
Community Info, Education and Job Trends. Moreover, to help teachers
start using online resources right away, the guide provides activities
and worksheets you can use in your workshops and classes. The
guide is on-line or can be downloaded.
Achievers International is an international economic education program
which was founded in Scotland and provides a unique opportunity
for school students to actively participate in the world's economy
by forming companies to import and export products. This is achieved
by pairing UK schools with international partner schools, and
vice versa. Achievers International enables students to learn
the commercial and entrepreneurial skills required to set up a
company, identify products, discover marketing opportunities,
explore manufacturing skills and then export the product to order.
Communication between the student companies is by e-mail and video
conferencing.
College Prep 101: Helping Students Prepare for
College A web-based course intended to provide college-bound
students with "information you will need as you embark on
a major change in your life-- deciding on and attending college."
Includes lessons on admissions standards, terminology, choosing
a college, campus visits, standardized tests, campus living, roommates,
choosing a major, time management, and much more. A great
resource! Lessons are written by faculty, staff and students at
Oklahoma State University or other experts in certain areas dealing
with college. Teachers or counselors will find some of the information
useful to use with students, either on-line or printed from the
site.
Apply business studies theory to
a real world business situation in a virtual world.
The Virtual Factory looks at all the major business functions,
including production, accounts and marketing. The site allows
students to look around their factory see how they produce and
sell hot air balloons, take a photographic tour of the factory,
and use the extensive range of worksheets and related questions.
A teacher's guide is included. For advanced business classes.
The Virtual Economy is a sophisticated online model of
the economy with extensive supporting materials. It has been jointly
developed by the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Biz/ed with
the support of a grant from the Nuffield Foundation.
Building Achievement through Sports
and Entertainment (JA B.A.S.E.). This Junior Achievement
program shows middle and high school students the business side
of sports and entertainment.Through a curriculum of economics
and free enterprise, students go behind-the-scenes at local sports
and entertainment venues and participate in hands-on activities.
The program provides a fun way to learn about careers in sports
and entertainment while focusing on solid business basics, such
as supply and demand, entrepreneurship, productivity and labor,
and competition.
Teach Students with "Try It" Lessons
This Chamber of Commerce site provides a framework, workplace
scenarios, project task overviews, student assignments, and detailed
task descriptions and tutorials that allow
students either by themselves or on a project team with other
students, actually experience the work of an industry (four
industries are now available). Although students could perform
the lessons independently, the site is designed with the teacher
a a facilitator. Special links designated as "teacher info"
are available for the teacher to prepare the class through homework
assignments or in-class discussions. The projects assume the student
has access to a standard product such as Claris Works or Microsoft
Works.

Construction
Trades The National Center for Construction Education
and Research (NCCER) offers a list of best practices and an on-line
handbook for assisting students, educators and employers for participation
in School-to-Career (STC) Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
Consumer Math In this
on-line activity, the student and a partner research and calculate
how much it will cost to put down carpet and linoleum, paint and
wallpaper the walls, and furnish a house with furniture. This
is a two-week project that should appeal to high school consumer
math students interested in interior design.

to Have a Successful Groundhog Job Shadow" guide to obtain
excellent activities and forms to be use in pre, during, and post
job shadowing activities. Activities in the Guide help connect
